What is the Awakening? It's when you can finally connect to the Immortal living inside your own soul. Don't freak out. You're still you. Awakening simply means you have now opened up the doorway into past lives and your abilities. But it's not as easy as it sounds.
[break][break]
Awakening is not a quiet, easy process. In fact, it's quite painful. Migraines that make you feel like your head is splitting in two, nausea, aches and pains. It's a process that takes awhile and the longer you fight it, the longer it takes. There's no stopping an Awakening. Awakening is nearly a week of excruciating pain as your mind opens a floodgate of memories of past lives. And your character is not conscious during any of this. No, they've been locked inside their own mind for this period of time. There are no exceptions to this rule. But don't worry, if you do Awaken and you want nothing to do with your immortal counterpart, you don't have to! Not all mortals accept their new role in the world and that's perfectly fine. Your immortal counterpart won't take over and control you, you may have it whisper in your ear but it can't force you to do anything. If you want to live a completely normal life, you can!
[break][break]
The only way to tell that you've Awakened, is a thin circle of gold around the outer rim of the iris that can flash under bright lights and glows in the darkness. Colored contacts can easily hide this. The twenty-first century made that possible. But more often than not, mortals have embraced this new life whole-heartedly. Some have completely reworked their entire lives while others have just decided to use their abilities for others or their own personal gain.
[break][break]
Keep in mind, the Awakening is a secret! Don't let it out who you are or who others are! You never know, the Government might have several Awakened in their midst and that they like to keep hidden! All the Gods and Goddess, at one point or another, had been worshiped and they want to avoid an all out war if it gets out that they're all actually real. Some might use their Immortal counterpart to gain fame and power but it seems to be a silent rule about gaining followers once more. None of the ancient Immortals want an all out War that could potentially wipe out their chances of new hosts.
[break][break]
The Awakened live a normal mortal life and, when the host dies, the Immortal moves onto another one. Not physically, per say, but they die in one body and wake up in another. Their new hosts are always newborns, never into anyone older. It is extremely rare to have someone Awaken before the age of 11 or 12 because of the difficulty and the extreme pain. There have been instances where the host was on death's door and the Immortal counterpart Awakened to keep the host alive but, again, it's extremely rare. Even more rare if the host survives the Awakening. Those that are already Awakened can tell those who have not Awakened yet by a faint gold aura surrounding them. Mortals are unaware of this, only those who have already Awakened can see it but they are unable to tell who inhabits the Host.
[break][break]
There is no way to remove the immortal counterpart aside from dying and they cannot take over your body or use it in anyway. The Immortal is mostly a collection of memories and experiences that is transferred from one person to the next. They have no physical body nor their own voice.
